Guns N Roses launch UK & Ireland tour with mammoth three-hour set – Live4ever

Guns N Roses kicked off their UK and Ireland tour in Dublin last night (May 17th) with the city’s O2 Arena crowd affording Axl Rose and co. a far warmer reception than when the band last visited in 2010.

Returning to the stage which saw them bottled off after just three songs a couple of years back, Gun N Roses made their entrance well over an hour after scheduled, before launching into a mammoth 21-song, three hour set.

Ahead of set closer and firm fan favourite ‘Paradise City‘, Axl Rose acknowledged the brighter atmosphere being felt on the night, addressing the crowd with: “Thanks for coming out, thanks for putting up with my lame ass and thanks for not throwing shit.”

Guns N Roses’ tour is due to continue at the Nottingham Arena tomorrow (May 19th).

Setlist:

‘Chinese Democracy’
‘Welcome to the Jungle’

Axl Rose Is Very Happy His Concert Crowd Isn’t Throwing Stuff at Him – Fuse

Guns ‘N Roses started their UK/Ireland tour last night at The O2 in Dublin and played a set that was roughly as long (three hours) as the amazing set the played at Webster Hall in New York earlier this year. But the band’s been through a lot in public lately, some of which was hard for fans, so, according to NME, Axl Rose really had to thank the crowd.

He said, on stage, “Thanks for coming out, thanks for putting up with my lame ass and thanks for not throwing s**t,” which is both a very rock ‘n roll/fantastically humble thing to say. We salute Axl for his honesty.

The band played the theme song to the Pink Panther, covers of “Another Brick in the Wall” and “Baba O’Riley,” did six costume changes, and set off some fireworks. They played 21 songs, including classics like “Paradise City,” and we think the show was probably a ton of fun.

Anyway, shouts out to Axl for being real with the fans. Let us know what you think of the Guns ‘N Roses reunion tour in the comments!

LA Guns to rock Cape Girardeau – Southeast Missourian

LA Guns have rocked stages all around the world, and now they will do the same in Cape Girardeau.

The Los Angeles-based foursome — along with openers Lullwater, Bone Kings and Ninth Life — will take the Pitter’s stage May 24.

“This is a true, world-famous act that is known as one of the best of their genre, so it’s definitely nice to have them in. We’ve had a great response as far as ticket sales, so we expect a decent crowd, especially for a Thursday night,” said Pitter’s co-owner JJ Seabaugh. “For those that don’t know about him, with Tracii Guns we’re talking about a true, honest-to-God rock star.”

Along with its firm pedigree in rock, the long history of late 1980s hair metal band LA Guns reads like a revolving door of musicians with an extensive cult following and three platinum-selling albums.

“If bands had family trees, LA Guns would have a forest of past members,” said Timexx Seabaugh. “Still, you have to remember the fact that Tracii was the ‘Guns’ in Guns ‘N’ Roses. This is a legend in heavy rock.”

Guitarist Guns originally formed the band after leaving Guns ‘N’ Roses (which he co-founded with Axl Rose) in 1987. A couple of lineup changes ensued for the band before it released its second and most successful album, “Cocked and Loaded.” This album featured the band’s most familiar tune, “The Ballad of Jayne.” At this time, the LA Guns featured their original lineup of Guns, vocalist Phil Lewis, drummer Steve Riley, Kelly Nickles on bass and guitarist Mick Cripps.

In 2004 and without Guns, the band released “Rip the Covers Off,” which featured covers of artists like David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and The Stooges. But this lack of Guns was the catalyst in what ultimately would be the formation of two different versions of the band.

One version of LA Guns is headed by Lewis and Riley and still tours all over the world. The second incarnation, which is playing Pitter’s, is Guns’ own version with Eric Grossman on bass, Doni Gray on drums and vocalist Dilana. Dilana might be better known to some for being this season’s runner-up on the CBS reality show “Rockstar: Supernova.” She was highlighted on the show by judges for her strong, smoky vocals, and intense, energetic stage presence.

Amazingly, both versions of the band coexist and have even been known to perform together. But Timexx Seabaugh said the real draw for the fans is the live experience Guns provides.

“This is why we say we are the place to party with real rock stars. We want to give people around here that rock club atmosphere that they normally have to go to a place like St. Louis for,” Timexx Seabaugh said. “Tracii is someone that has been somewhere and done something in his music career. And even if you’re not a fan, if you like rock you’ll like the fact that this guy’s coming through our town.”

JJ Seabaugh thinks this show is more proof that his venue is the only true music venue in the area.

“We are a music venue first, and everything else comes second. That’s why we bring in bands you can hear on the radio. That’s why you see groups that are somebody or were somebody,” he said. “Our view here is that we don’t yet have a music scene, we have a bar scene. Giving people that ‘Pop’s’ experience will help change that.”

LA Guns and the opening acts will start the show at 7 p.m. May 24, with doors to open at 5 p.m. Cover charge is $15 at the door or $12 in advance, and tickets can be purchased at Pitter’s and Bootheel Harley-Davidson in Cape Girardeau.

Thin Lizzy plays double bill with Guns N Roses in Dublin’s O2 concert hal – Hollywood Today Newsmagazine

By: Valerie Milano and Lorraine Chambers – Dublin, Ireland (Hollywood Today) 5-18-12

Thin Lizzy Olympia Theatre Dublin 2012 live concert

Yes, a whole lot of ‘boys are back in town’ in Dublin’s fair city on a cloudy Thursday night. Ireland’s legendary band, Thin Lizzy came home to pay homage to their roots and former band leader, Phil Lynott as well as be proud of its current fantastic lineup. Hollywood Today witnessed the launch of this latest lineup in Southern California back in the fall of 2011 and they have grown even tighter since that magical debut night at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. Thin Lizzy is giving the Dubs an early Christmas treat by returning for a December performance at the fabled historic Olympia Theatre in Dublin.

There may be a recession and Euro problems outside the doors of the Dublin venue, but inside was pure escapism for a mixed age group of rockers. The O2 Venue was formerly known as The Point and it is now managed by Live Nation. The central location of the music hall is tied into its former origins as a train depot at the end of the Liffey River before it goes to the ports.

The lineup, feature vocalist Ricky Warwick, bassist Marco Mendoza and guitarist Damon Johnson alongside Classic Thin Lizzy members Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton have gone from strength to strength since announcing their return in May 201O. Currently blowing away fans with 13 dates across the UK during January and February, Scott Gorham commented “The response has been amazing – there are some towns we haven’t played with this line up and demand for us to play there means we can add more shows – so here you are!!’  The band, who have not released a studio album since 1983?s ‘Thunder And Lightning’, indicated earlier this year that they are considering recording new material together. Were this to happen, it would mark the first new music the band had released since the death of front man Phil Lynott in 1986.

It was more of a double bill night than Thin Lizzy being the opening act as the band still holds its own as a headliner. The patient audience waited an hour before Guns N Roses hit the stage and yes it was worth the wait. Thankfully this show ran a lot better with the audience than last years. We don’t need to bring up the past, yet it wasn’t pretty and thank heavens for the Irish audience to forgive Axel Rose and bring the band back. Never a dull moment with Axel Rose!
