Duff Mckagan Gets Loaded In August – Contactmusic.com

Duff McKagan’s Loaded will start recording their new album in August after writing material for the past few months.

Duff McKagan’s Loaded will start recording their new album in August.

The rock group – led by the former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver bassist – have been busy writing songs for the LP and are now looking forward to getting into the studio to lay down some tracks.

A statement said: “We have been writing for the last few months and next week we start pre-production on the newLOADEDrecord! We couldn’t be happier and we think you f***ers will be, too!

“As it is looking, we will be recording it in August and thus beginsLOADED Mach III! (sic)”

The band recently parted ways with their label, Century Media Records, after releasing 2008 five-song EP ‘Wasted Heart’ and full-length album ‘Sick’ in 2009.

Last year, drummer Geoff Reading quit the band and was replaced by Isaac Carpenter, who has previously worked with Loudermilk, Gosling, Ours and The Exies.

As well as McKagan and Carpenter, the group also consists of bassist Jeff Rouse and guitarist Mike Squires.

SEBASTIAN BACH Has 21 Songs Written And Demoed For Next Solo Album – July 4, 2010 – Blabbermouth.net

Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach is currently working on material for a new solo album which he says will be released through an as-yet-undisclosed “major label.”

Bach’s current solo band includes guitarists Nick Sterling and Johnny Chromatic, drummer Bobby Jarzombek and bassist Rob DeLuca.

Sebastian last year collaborated with HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta on several tracks for Bach’s new solo album, with Nick and Charlie Bellmore of the Connecticut band PHANTOMS assisting during the pre-production process. The singer has also written material with John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON).

Commented Sebastian: “Nick is very prolific.

“This will be the most demos by far I have recorded for any record I have ever done, counting all the songs I have with Nick, John 5, Charlie Bellmore, Jeffrey Steele, Vicky McGehee, and Jamey Jasta.

Nick’s melodies are very challenging and he is making me step up my game in the studio. Teaching me stuff about recording, too!

“He is coming here soon and we are gonna write a song with Aaron Lewis of STAIND!

“Met Aaron at John Rich’s house and hung with him Friday in [Atlantic City]!

“Can’t wait to crush your iPod with new jams!!”

He added, “As I said a couple of days ago, I have 21 demos for new rock CD. 18 rockers, three ballads.

“You can only fit 13 songs max on a CD. I gotta pick the best songs out of these.

“Believe me, this album will rock hard like every album I have ever done. But I dig singing ballads, too. Gotta have dynamics on the CD.

“By the way, did I mention I have EIGHTEEN rockers and THREE ballads?

“Chillax, people, trust me! It’s only been 21 years we’ve been rocking together, fer fux sakes, hahaha!”

Bach supported GUNS N’ ROSES on their recently completed South American and Canadian tours.

Bach is best known for selling 20 million albums as the former lead singer of SKID ROW. He has gone on to star on Broadway and television, including five seasons on CW’s “Gilmore Girls”, as well as hit shows on VH1, MTV and CMT. Bach’s most recent studio project was “Angel Down”, his first solo album since 1999. The record features 14 songs with a guest appearance by GUNS N’ ROSES front man Axl Rose on three cuts, including a blistering version of AEROSMITH’s “Back In The Saddle”.

Guns n’ Roses guitarist Slash wowed Scots fans but reveals fear of singing – Scottish Daily Record

Jul 4 2010

Exclusive by Billy Sloan, Sunday Mail

GUITAR legend Slash showed no fear when playing in front of 70,000 strong audiences in stadiums around the world with US rockers Guns N’ Roses.

But ask him to step up to the microphone and sing and he runs for cover – gripped by nerves.

The 44-year-old musician has revealed he was forced to abandon plans to sing on his new solo album because he feared he’d never be able to pull it off. Instead, Slash made a list of his favourite vocalists, then asked them to perform his new songs.

The result is an impressive debut album, titled Slash, which features collaborations with Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy of Motorhead, Kid Rock and Myles Kennedy.

Slash, who also tasted success with Velvet Revolver, knew he was on a winner when his hero Iggy Pop called him up and began singing his song down the telephone after he sent him a CD of the music.

Last week, the guitarist wowed a capacity audience at the HMV Picture House in Edinburgh on a UK tour to launch the new album.

Backstage, the British-born superstar, whose real name is Saul Hudson and who was raised in Stoke-on-Trent before taking US citizenship, told me: “When I first started playing guitar I did sing a little.

“But I quickly realised other people were more capable of the whole persona of being a frontman.

“I didn’t even sing on the demos for the album.

“I will probably at some point in my career break down and sing something.

“But this record was more of an open canvas for my favourite singers to come in and do whatever they wanted.”

Slash also loved working with Fergie, sexy singer of Black Eyed Peas, on the track Beautiful Dangerous. He said:”I wanted a female voice and she came up with some of best lyrics on the album.”

In 1985, Slash became a music phenomenon with Guns N’ Roses and his 11-year career with the US band included chart topping albums Appetite For Destruction and Use Your Illusion I and II.

Record sales of 110million include their hit songs Sweet Child O’Mine, with his classic guitar riff intro, Paradise City and Welcome To The Jungle.

He split from Guns N’ Roses in 1996 after a bitter fued with vocalist Axl Rose.

Superstar Prince is giving away his new album to his millions of fans – only in the Daily Mirror.

The singer has shunned selling his eagerlyanticipated CD 20TEN in the shops or releasing it online because he wants as many people as possible to hear his music.

More than 2.5 million copies of his 10-track album will be free in next Saturday’s Daily Mirror – the only place in the UK and Ireland it will be available.

His decision is the talk of the record industry because he is the first major artist to release a new album in a national daily newspaper.

Prince said he was delighted to be working with the Mirror, adding: “I am very proud of the album. It’s great it will be free to your readers in the newspaper.”

Next week in the Mirror, in the run-up to the release of his new album, the 52-year-old music legend – who has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide – will be giving his first British newspaper interview in more than 10 years.

We’ll also be giving away tickets to Prince’s European concerts. Paul Rees, of Rock mag Q, said: “It’s such a smart move for him to release his new album through the Mirror.

“Everyone is talking about the new album. As a performer he’s astonishing – and this album will be more of the same.”

Guns N’ Roses legend Slash said: “Wow I’m so looking forward to the Prince album in the Mirror. I’ve always wanted to have the call from him to work together.”

Bbc Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills said: “I grew up listening to Prince – he is an absolute legend. I am really looking forward to what he has to offer with this album.”

Prince spokeswoman Kiran Sharma added: “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World in 1995 was Prince’s first No1 selling single as a completely free artist.

“Fifteen years on, Prince is demonstrating that in 2010 it is still possible for artists to be independent and innovative. 20TEN, is a celebratory Prince masterpiece.”

BUMBLEFOOT On Touring With GUNS N’ ROSES, Solo Releases – July 3, 2010 – Blabbermouth.net

DailyMusicGuide recently conducted an interview with GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

DailyMusicGuide: First and foremost, how has the current GUNS N’ ROSES touring been going? You’ve been on quite a road trip in the past few months!

Thal: It’s been good, man. Good to be out there, and doin’ it better than before. We hit Asia, Canada, acoustic shows in New York City, all around South and Central America, now just getting back from northern Europe and Russia… Good stuff! And in between I’m just bustin’ ass in the studio, bangin’ out guitar tracks and taking care of biz that’s been on the “to-do” list for years now. It’s always a race against the clock in between legs of the tour, trying to catch up on everything and get as much done as possible before hittin’ the road again. I squeeze so much in off the road, by the time I get to the first hotel room on a tour I usually sleep for a good 20 hours.

DailyMusicGuide: So, no longer the “new boy” — that honor falls to D.J. Ashba. How has he been fitting into the group and what’s it like playing alongside him?

Thal: Holy fuck, I’m not the “NEW GUY” anymore! Yeah, it’s been great touring with D.J. — we’ve had some fun times. We had most of 2009 to coordinate our guitar parts, our gear, to get everything ready to go. Very different from my “new-guy” experience, which was to hop in at the last minute before touring with no time to work out gear, to get to know each other, to work together on anything, to learn the new songs… Shit, I had to learn the “Chinese Democracy” songs note-for-note by listening with headphones on a laptop for a half hour at a rehearsal studio while the band waited in the next room, without ever getting a copy of the songs to really learn them. I’m happy it didn’t happen like that for D.J. — he was welcomed in, we had time to work together, and he was given the opportunity to rise to the occasion, and he definitely did.

DailyMusicGuide: Are there any pre-show rituals you have before the start of a live performance?

Thal: I like to watch the opening acts from the side of the stage, then I’ll noodle around on an acoustic guitar for an hour, just walking around the venue. As it gets closer to show time, I’ll go onstage and do the same in the back, out of sight. At show time I’m usually up on the side of the stage by my guitars and amps, and I wait along with the audience for the show to start. Then the venue goes black, the audience cheers, my tech gives me the double-neck guitar and says “have fun.” It’s not so much a ritual, just how it usually goes. Not always like that — at Sweden Rock, a few of us flew from Moscow straight to Sweden at show time right to the venue. But usually that’s how it happens. I get there early, check out the venue, the other bands, have dinner, warm up the fingers, first guy on stage.

DailyMusicGuide: You have another re-release coming out, your debut album, with a 200-page transcription booklet attached. What’s this all about?

Thal: Yes, my first album, “The Adventures of Bumblefoot”, is being re-released by Shrapnel Records. It’s an instrumental album, originally released in 1995. We re-packaged it, added some bonus tracks from a videogame soundtrack I had made also in ‘95, and will have it available at my webstore in August. We’ll be selling signed copies and donating $5 from each album sold to M.S. research. Along with the CD, we’ll also have a transcription book that I wrote myself. Six months of writing out and typesetting 200 pages of the exact music notation, tab, fingers, picking — everything for every track in every song. This album was the turning point for me, when everything became legit. The album was on Roadrunner Records in Europe and Japan, and it was well received at the time; it had good press from magazines and readers’ polls. Happy to have it all available now to a whole new generation of guitarists.

DailyMusicGuide: Last year you released your first all-acoustic CD. Tell us a little about that and where the inspiration came from.

Thal: “Abnormal” was released in July 2008 and I knew “Chinese Democracy” was on the way. As it was getting closer I wanted to get some more music out before getting busy with GN’R. I had never put out any kind of collection of acoustic songs, even though most of the time I’m playing acoustic off stage. So I started taking songs from my previous albums and making acoustic versions of them, coming up with different ways to make the heavy instrumentation and parts work for acoustic guitars. It was the easiest time I ever had making an album, came together very easily and naturally. And so much more room to sing dynamically. I asked the members of my forum what songs they’d want to hear acoustic versions of, and then I recorded the most popular choice and made it the first song on the album. I released the album in December 2008, right before heading out to L.A. and getting back to work with GN’R the following month.
